Bye, Bye Binkies

We were planning to get rid of Charlie's binkies pretty soon. Since he has been about 6 months old, we have restricted his use of his binkies to bedtime and church. But, he did love his binkies, especially when it was time to go "night-night".

We got rid of the triplet's binkies when they were 2.5 years old and that worked out relatively well. I knew it was time to get rid of the their binkies because they would wake up in the middle of the night because they had dropped a binkie on the floor and then "demand" a certain color. There are not many things worse than finding yourself on the floor, under a crib, at 3am!, searching for a blue binkie because the red one that he has in his crib isn't good enough. I figured that if they were old enough to demand a certain color binkie, they were probably too old to be using the darn things anyway.

So, in the end, I told the boys that they binkies were for babies and they were not babies any more. They happily loaded all of their binkies into a bag for "babies". There were some tears shed that night, when they realized that they were really gone....and they really missed them. But, after that first night, there were no more problems.

I figured that after Christmas, when Charlie turned 2.5, we would take the same approach with him. Unfortunately (for him), there was a change of plans and we had to move up the end date for the binkies. You see, Charlie has recently started to enjoy chewing on his binkies, rather than just sucking on it. One by one, we have had to throw them each away because he chewed right through it. I had already decided that I was not going to buy extra binkies, so I knew the day was coming. Yesterday was *the* day. He finally chewed through the last binkie and made it "broken".

So, they are gone. Well, not actually physically gone, yet. I left them in his crib to remind him what happened, but look at the pictures, they are as good as gone.

The good news is the Charlie survived and after a bit of tearful whining for his "Eee-Eee" at bedtime yesterday and naptime today, he has slept just fine. Whew! Now it is just Charlie and his best friend "monkey".

Bye Bye Binkie.... he'll get over it so much easier than a thumb! We are paying for it with Rachel's braces. Claire just used binkies as a toy once in awhile but now she is obsessed with "juuice"
