Irish vs. Catholic

This year, Easter is on March 23rd, which is obviously very early for Easter. But did you know that Easter has not been this early since 1913 and will not be this early again until the year 2228? Wow!!! I had no idea until I just looked it up.

I bring this up because I was listening to the news on the radio the other day and they were 'reporting' that there has been some talk that "the church" thinks that traditional St. Patrick's Day celebrations should be skipped this year due to the fact that St. Patrick's Day falls during Holy Week this year. Since Holy Week is supposed to be a solemn time for the church, they do not feel that the St. Patrick's Day festivities are appropriate.

The part of the news report that cracked me up was the 'guy on the street' that they interviewed. The reporter explained the position of the Catholic Church and the guy was trying to make his point that the St. Patrick Day celebrations must go on. He said "Well, ya see, you are born IRISH and then baptized Catholic. Since you are Irish before you are Catholic, celebrate away on St. Paddy's Day!!!" Whew...Thank Goodness...I was worried. ;)
