Life must be too easy

In the past couple of months, I've started reading....real books, not just People Magazine or other peoples' blogs, or TC...REAL BOOKS!!

There are actually a few reasons that I decided to try to start reading real books again.

1. I *won* three books at our Triplet Tree White Elephant Christmas party. It was one of those grab-bag type things where you get to steal other gifts. I 'stole' the 3 books from someone else and somehow managed to not get them stolen away from me for the rest of the party. You may wonder why someone that is not really in the habit of reading books picks three books for a prize. Well, I actually couldn't care less about the 3 books, but there was a McDonald's giftcard included as part of the present! Have you tried the chocolate chip cookies at Mickey D's?!?!?!?!?! They are so good...I'm so addicted and really wanted that gift card!!! I was very happy with my 'prize' and on my way out Theresa (the gifter of my 'prize') told me to enjoy my cookies and mentioned that the books were actually not half bad. I trust Theresa and decided to give it a try.

The number 2 reason for me starting to read again is...(this is so cool!)...apparently, "they" have done studies and learned that kids that see their parents read tend to be smarter and do better in school. How cool is that?! I guess "they" are saying that I can relax in the middle of the afternoon, on the couch, with a good book and build a brighter future for my children at the same time. I'll admit that it still feels a bit like I'm being lazy, but if "they"say that it works, I'll have to keep trying. ;)

The last reason is that I had a mini-meltdown a few weeks ago and decided that althought I love being a stay-at-home-mom, I felt like I was getting pretty "out-of-it" and did not have much to contribute to conversations that didn't revolve around kindergarteners or toddlers and the things that they play, eat, watch, sing and expel. I decided that reading a book might make me more "worldly". You'll have to let me know if you notice any improvement the next time you talk to me. ;)

So, my reading list includes:

"Twilight", by Stephanie Meyer - I enjoyed it. This was the book that I got from Theresa at the Christmas party. It was easy to read and fun. It was about vampires. Spencer kept making fun of me that I was reading a book about vampires, but it really was good. I was going to read the other 2 books in the series, but then I noticed in the bookstore that it was being advertised with the teen books. Since I was not really looking to be more "worldly" with teenagers, I thought my efforts might be better with a different book for my next selection.

"Eat, Pray, Love", by Elizabeth Gilbert - This was definitely a good book to make me more worldly. I heard that Oprah even recommended this book. I did find it very interesting and it still has me thinking. It was not super entertaining, I never had a problem turning off my light and going to sleep, but it was definitely interesting and not a hard read.

"My Sister's Keeper", by Jodi Picoult - This one was really entertaining. It kept me up too late many nights because I had to find out what was going to happen. I was very surprised by the end, which was very sad. It is funny because I gave the books to my mom and she started reading that one right away. After starting the book, she told me that she really thinks she is going to enjoy it. LOL...wait until she gets to the end! Anyway, this book was no where near as interesting as "Eat, Pray, Love", but it was entertaining and I really enjoyed it.

Now, I need a new book. Any suggestions???

Ooohh...I am a crazy reader! Anything by Fannie Flagg or Lorna Landvik is always good. If you're looking for funny 'mom' stories, I am a huge fan of Laurie Notaro. I have Extreme Parenting: the Triplet Diaries here somewhere if you want to borrow it!

Now that "they" have recommended reading..."I'm" going to have to give it a try. LOL I love to read, but that T.V. seems to call me when I should be reading. You know, I haaaave to find out what happened on Scott Baio's 46 and Pregnant! ;)

Also Blood Orange was great, and the whole Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is my favorite of all time. If you want to know how I have all this time to read stop over and see the house The Nanny Diaries was a GREAT book, heard the movie wasn't so great though

amazon.com is a great place to research good books - I love Janet Evanovich - there is a whole series of her books out there starting with One for the Money and then Two for the Dough I think is the second book - it goes up to 13 now. Not for teens either and you will laugh a lot. Adriana Trigiani is also a good author - Big Cherry Holler is one of her books. I've read them all as well.

Geek Love by Kathrine Dunn... weird but good. The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. She is actually a friend of mine and I think they will be making a movie of it soon. Another place to scout out books is www.half.com I think it is part of ebay (???) but it is all books and music 1/2 price. Memory Keepers Daughter is good too.
